Bay Bridge is closed for the weekend in the West

SAN FRANCISCO - With a one-way bridge San Francisco-Oakland Bay closed for the long weekend, residents of San Francisco out of the city will have to plan ahead in using the bridge to return to the city.

Westbound lanes were closed shortly after 20:00 Frlday so crews can work on the reconfiguration of lanes on the upper deck and pave the way and streaks of paint to new lanes.

Caltrans says westbound is scheduled to open at 5 am Tuesday, provided the weather cooperates, without the heavy rains.

The National Weather Service says a weather system approaches the region, but is forecasting only a 20 percent chance of rain Monday.

While the road is closed, BART is running limited service overnight early Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning, and local ferries will also add service.
